First Founding Gaming club’s first Warhammer 40k tournament of the year is this Saturday (12th May). Regular readers of this blog should be aware that I am in the process of painting a table’s worth of scenery for this tournament, as such there has been no time to prepare a new army or even new units.
This means that once again, I’m sticking to good old Orks.
I have taken Orks to a couple of tournaments now (in fact, I’ve not played with any other army at a tournament) and since this is the largest force I have, it’s probably my best option.
I’ve played a couple of practice games with varying degrees of success.
I have tried a horde army with as many Boyz as I could get (2 mobs of 30 Boyz), I have tried an Evil Sunz themed list, where pretty much everything was either on a bike or in a trukk/battlewagon and the main thing that struck me was that a lack of going first still really hits the Orks hard.
8th edition seems to be all about relics and strategems, which due to no codex, Orks find themselves alittle handicapped.
I really don’t think then that my Orks will do well in this tournament. This is actually a good thing, as now I don’t have to worry about what is a good list, I can’t just bring anything that I want to and just have fun.
With fun in mind, here is my submitted army list:
Batallion Detachment – 1246 points
HQ
“Graz Da Great” Warboss – Power Klaw, Kustom Shoota, Attack Squig
“Grog Da Builda” Big Mek – Power Klaw, Kustom Force Field
“Weird Alz” Weirdboy
Troops
30 Boyz inc Nob with Power Klaw – Sluggas and Choppas.
10 Boyz inc Nob with Power Klaw – Sluggas and Choppas
10 Gretchin
Elites
Mek – Killsaw, Kustom Mega-Slugga
Painboy
Heavy Support
Deffdread – 3 Dreadklaws, Kustom Mega-Blasta
Morkanaut – Kustom Force Field, Klaw of Mork, 2 Twin Big Shootas, 2 Rokkit Launchas, Kustom Mega-Blasta, Kustom Mega-Kannon
Flyer
“Sky Kaptin Mavaork” Dakkajet – 6 Supa Shootas
I’ve not used a flyer in 8th before so this tournament will be a bit of trial and error, but only if the Dakket survives turn 1.
Good luck at the tournament! Orks are always a fun army to play, so why worry about winning? (At least, that’s what I tell myself).
Thanks Michael.
Hopefully I’ll still have the Morkanaut and Dakkajet after my opponents’ turn 1. If not, hopefully I have enough Boyz.
