I’ve been keen to get some scenery pieces painted up that can be used for multiple gaming systems.
You can’t go far wrong with the classic Citadel Woods.
These can be used in Five Leagues from the Borderlands, The Silver Bayonet but also have a place on worlds in the 41st Millennium.
While painting these, I thought it would be useful to record my painting process as no doubt in the far future I will find myself with other foliage that I will try and match in.
Starting from a black undercoat, cover all of the ground with Rhinox Hide:

Next drybrush all of the ground with Steel Legion Drab:

Paint all of the rocks with Dawn stone:

Pick out any skulls and bones in Zandri Dust:

Pick out the roots in Dryad Bark:

Wash all of the rocks and skulls in Agrax Earthshade. Once dry, drybrush all of the ground, rocks and skulls in Ushabti Bone:

Paint the areas of moss/grass in Waaagh! Flesh:

Drybrush the green areas with Warboss Green:

Further drybrush the green areas with either Skarsnik Green or Straken Green:

Finally, tidy up the roots by repainting the Dryad Bark. Wash the roots with Agrax Earthshade and then highlight with Dawnstone:

The trees follow the steps already listed, but the bark is essentially, Dryad Bark, washed with Agrax Earthshade and then highlighted with Dawnstone:

The leaves are painted in the same way as the grass areas, except I basecoared them with the Colourforge sprays Renegade Green and Governor Green:

All leaves were drybrushed with Warboss Green:

For variety, I drybrushed half of the each set of leaves on Skarsnik Green and half in Straken Green:

I then picked out the branches on Dryad Bark:

Washed the branches in Agrax Earthshade:

And then highlighted them in Dawnstone:

And with these scenery pieces completed, I have another completed line on the Hobby Bingo Card!
