As the year comes to a close, it’s time to see how productive this year in the hobby has been for me and maybe have a bit of a reflection.
First of all, I’ve not been very active with this blog over the past year. A lot of that has been due to me not being super active with my hobby this year, but also I think due to me rushing to get some of these models finished for a tournament and then losing all motivation for hobby once that target has been completed.
Recently my gaming buddies have all worked out how many models they painted this year, so I decided to join in.
So, looking at this blog and some of the photos on my phone, I’ve managed to put together the following list:
- 9 x Tau Crisis Suits
- 1 x Tau Crisis Commander
- 1 x Tau Commander Farsight
- 1 x Tau Broadside
- 10 x Tau Breachers
- 1 x Tau Devilfish Turret
- 3 x Tau Bunkers
- 1 x Tau Shield Generator
- 4 x Tau Containers
- 2 x Tau Platforms
- 1 x Tau Tower
- 8 x Tau Walls
- 1 x Iron Hand Straken
- 2 x Imperial Commissars
- 22 x Poxwalkers
- 2 x Deadzone Walkways
- 1 x Deadzone Military Outpost
- 6 x Deadzone Small Buildings
- 1 x Stargrave model
There are a few other models that I’ve forgotten about, there is certainly some more Stargrave models that I’ve mostly finished and are just missing their bases.

So all in all, not too bad an amount, even if it does feel I’ve neglected my hobby for a lot of the year.
One thing that I have managed to stick to this year, is keeping a log of all of my hobby purchases, be that models, paint or 3D filament. While my buddies thought this was madness, I think it’s been very useful and something that I will utilise in the future.
So, what has the spending been like?
So first off, the total money spent. As this is the first time I have logged my hobby spending, I don’t know if this is a good amount or not. It feels like an ok amount, especially when you consider that I’ve dived into new gaming systems this year.
Total: £2676.11
Looking at what I’ve spent, you can see which games system have gotten the most of my attention this year.
Not only has my spending log shown me how much I’ve spent this year, and on what gaming systems, but I can also use it as a motivational tool to try and get these models built and painted in the future, more of that in another post.

The clear winner was Deadzone, but a lot of this is due to the Mantic Terrain Crates that I’ll be able to use in all of my Sci-Fi gaming.
2024 was obviously the year for getting into new games, with the likes of Deadzone, Halo: Flashpoint, The Silver Bayonet, Star Saga, Five Parsecs From Home and Battlefront Valkyrie all appearing on this list.

The majority of my spending was split between Scenery and Squads of models and Starter Sets, highlighting just how many new games I’ve gotten into this year!
That Tau stuff is amazing, I love the terrain especially! Great job!!
Love the tau collection. You’ve put some great work into that.
I track what I buy by quantity but not price… too scared to do that.
Cheers,
Pete.
